Our Wednesday Photography Group brings together members with a variety of backgrounds, skills and interests who want to share, learn and encourage one another.
Whether using or phones, compact cameras, single lens reflex, mirrorless cameras or drones, we all share a passion for capturing what interests us, whether that’s stunning views, events, wildlife, people, sport, architecture, or many other things.
Our group lets us share and learn from what we capture, finding ways to improve, refine or take in different ways. We share knowledge of locations and events and do our best to encourage everyone to take even more and better photographs and to have fun doing it!
We are not about competing against one another every week, but rather about supporting each other and enjoying the company and enthusiasm of fellow photographers!
We meet every Wednesday morning from 10 until 12 in the Newton Wallacetown Church Hall, from early September through until the end of April.
We arrive from 0945 onwards, splitting our session into two halves, to provide variety during the session, with mid-way break for coffees, teas and biscuits.
We look at photographs captured by our members, inviting submissions based on themes or types of photography, to see what we can learn and to encourage others to try as well.
We discuss equipment, editing and technical aspects, sharing our knowledge, helping everyone to get the most out of what they capture, and seeing if images could be improved.
We also take time to enjoy each other’s company, catching up with what we have been getting up to, passing on tips and ideas, and helping to resolve issues with equipment or aspects of photography we have been trying out since we last met.
We have a competitive element in two of annual activities, capturing and selecting images for our 2026 Calendar and doing something similar in our 2026 Photographic Competition. However, in both cases the judges are the group itself, so both fun and fair!
2026 Competition Winners:
From May to the end August we have trips to locations that are great for photography.
In 2026 we had 8 fortnightly trips, including visits to Threave Gardens & Castle; Barony A Frame & Mauchline; Linlithgow Palace & Beecraigs Country Park; Girvan & Maidens; Dawyck Gardens & Biggar; Govan & Fairfield Heritage; Largs Museum & Kelburn Castle; Dean Castle & Caprington Estate. We enjoy our days out together, capturing a range of great photographs, that we then catch up with and reflect on as part of our meetings.
Sharing, learning and encouraging, and having good fun at the same time!
