MAY NEWS EMAIL
OiR AGM
A very successful AGM was held in Ayr Town Hall on Tuesday 14th April
- We would like to thank Barrie Southwood for 4 years of Chairing
OiR Committee and welcome Meg Steel to her new position of Chair.
PLEA TO GROUP LEADERS:
Would Group Leaders coming in with rent monies please continue to make
an appointment with the office – office@oirayr.org.uk. This really helps
in the office, and thank you all in anticipation of your help. Also
sincere thanks to all Group Leaders who were kind enough to take
subscriptions on behalf of their Groups for the Office. We very much
appreciated your help. One other request we have is to ask Group
Leaders, when convenient, to ask for a show of Membership Cards 2026
before the summer recess. This may help jog memories to those who have
simply forgotten to renew this year. Once again sincere thanks for your
help.
OUTLOOK SUMMER EDITION:
Preparation of our August Outlook Magazine is now underway and we would
just like to encourage any member or Group Leader to submit
material/photographs for the publication. All material much appreciated

POSSIBLE COACH TRIPS
On April 14th at the AGM over 30 members showed an interest in
re-establishing coach tours. Initially, these would be day trips. To do
this, we would need to be assured of a full coach as the cost of coach
hire has risen steeply since Covid 19. If you are interested, please
contact the office (office@oirayr.org.uk) or speak to Christine Harris
at the Tuesday Town Hall Talks. Thanks, Meg Steel.
FRIDAY VERY SHORT WALKS:
I am planning to start a new walking group specifically aimed at those
people who cannot manage more than about two miles. It will meet
fortnightly on a Friday morning and should start sometime in June.
Please email me (Barrie Southwood) on bjsouthwood@btinternet.com if you
would like to be included in the circulation list for this walk.
PLEA TO MEMBERS:
Please can we ask our members to refrain from parking in our OiR Car
Park at the rear of the office during our office opening hours. We only
have 2 spaces and really need them for our staff – some of whom have
mobility issues. Thank you!

PROPOSED NEW ACTIVITY : BEGINNING ART CLASS, PRESTWICK COMMUNITY CENTRE
If you have some free time in your week, you might like to consider trying Art as a hobby. If enough Members are interested, Tom McCrorie will be starting an Art Class at Prestwick Community Centre in the New Year. Members are invited to go along and develop and discover art skills in a friendly and supportive group. All levels of aspiring artists welcome! Saying ‘I can’t draw’ is no barrier to enjoying art. You will discover more ways to enjoying art than starting with a drawing! Short talks and demos will be arranged in pencil/pen art, pastels, watercolour and acrylic painting. For those who are starting out with art, Tom will provide a suggested list of materials during the first week. For those who are already doing art,, please bring along something to work on, along with your own materials. Tom plans to arrange 8 weeks in the first instance and ideally would need a class size of at least 12 for the size of the room and to keep costs to approximately £2 per head. If you are interested, please email the office (office@oirayr.org.uk) and indicate your preferred day time between: Monday – 2.30-4.30 or Friday from 2-4pm. Also, please indicate which type of art interests you: pencil/pen drawing, Pastels, Watercolour, Acrylics.
POSSIBLE NEW ACTIVITY : SWIMMING GROUP, PRESTWICK POOL
”Having consulted with personnel at the Prestwick swimming pool which has recently opened back up again it looks like they can only offer a Saturday between 12:15 and 1pm. I was considering the possibility of the OIR using the pool for a group but they are very limited and it would not just be for OIR. The person I spoke with called it a GP referral time. (I think). Presumably people with physical/mental difficulties would use it at that time under the care of the GP?
My thinking is that it is a no-go but if anyone is keen to pursue the possibility of having another group at the Prestwick Pool under those circumstances please let me know. Contact me at brownlesley10@gmail.com
or text on 07907733133′. Thanks, Lesley Brown.
Committee would like to take this opportunity to wish you all a very Happy Christmas and a happy, healthy 2026.

Could our Group Leaders please consider taking a table at the Event? Please let us know via email (office@oirayr.org.uk). Also we encourage our Members to come along to the Event and bring a friend who is not an OiR Member to let them see what we can offer, chat with Groups, Committee Members and Office staff. The Office staff will be there to enable existing members to renew their Membership for 2026 and of course, to accept new members. Refreshments will also be available on the day.
